PhD Position in Marine Biogeochemistry

(reference: HYPOX)

The Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences (IFM-GEOMAR) is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic applicant for a PhD position in simulating reaction-transport processes in marine sediments. The research will be carried out under the umbrella of the new EU project HYPOX: In situ monitoring of oxygen depletion in hypoxic ecosystems of coastal and open seas, and land-locked water bodies (http://www.hypox.net). The candidate will develop a biogeochemical model to predict how oxygen depletion affects the exchange of nutrients to and from the sea floor. Participation in research cruises to HYPOX working areas may be possible.

Applicants should enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team and have a background in biogeochemical processes and early diagenesis. Expertise in surface and/or subsurface transport processes, numerical modelling techniques, hydro(geo)chemistry, ecology and/or microbiology is highly beneficial.

The successful candidate will be offered a phD position for a period of 3 years. Salary will be according to the German tariff TVL 13/2 depending on the appointee's qualifications and experience. IFM-GEOMAR is an equal opportunities employer and encourages female scientists and scientists with disabilities to apply.

Application documents (including CV, motivation, a list of 3 referees) quoting the reference code 'HYPOX' should be send to:
