JUNIOR PROFESSORSHIP (W1 TENURE-TRACK LEADING TO W2) IN
commencing as soon as possible, ref. no. JP 257
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Conduct research and teach in the field of biological oceanography, in particular, the candidate must contribute to the foundation courses of the bachelor's and master's program Marine Ecosystem and Fisheries Science (MARSYS) at Universität Hamburg;
- establish a research group;
- supervise BSc, MSc and PhD students;
- and contribute to the self-administration of the Institute and the Faculty.
The successful candidate is invited to participate in the Cluster of Excellence and the Center for
Earth System Research and Sustainability.
Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (Hamburgisches
Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG), applies.
Applicants should have an outstanding PhD in biological oceanography or a related discipline
with focus on experimental and/or field research on climate-relevant aspects of marine
Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in Section 18 HmbHG.
Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track
record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects. The University
places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants
provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.
A tenure-track evaluation will be conducted during the second phase of the junior
professorship in order to determine whether requirements for appointment to a W2
professorship have been met. Section 15 HmbHG applies. Upon proof that the candidate fulfills
the requirements for an appointment to a W2 professorship, he or she is eligible for a tenured professorship. The regulations prohibiting internal appointments (Hausberufungsverbot) also apply to junior professorships.
