The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on as soon as possible but latest 01-September-2019.
This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 2 years. The position calls for 100 % of standard work hours per week**.
* Full-time positions currently comprise 39 hours per week.
Duties primarily include teaching and research. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
Specific duties include (1) the development of a consistent set of climate relevant (response and effect) traits in marine and terrestrial organisms, (2) the implementation of these traits in an ecosystem model framework and (3) the analysis of the sensitivity of an Earth system model to the addition of these traits and corresponding trade-offs. The amount of teaching is 4 academic hrs/week during the semester.
A university degree in a relevant field. The research associate must have profound knowledge in marine and/or terrestrial biogeosciences, numerical ecosystem modelling, a programming language (e.g., FORTRAN), data visualization tools and LINUX. The willingness to cooperate with colleagues from the Biology department as well as from climate science working groups is expected. The candidate must have profound knowledge in English - native or TOEFL-score with a minimum of 25 in each of the four sections.
