Two Postdoctoral fellowships on sea surface temperature anomalies in the subtropical North Pacific and their impact on the atmosphere

Application deadline: Open until the position is filled

Job description

Two Postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Hawaii at Manoa on sea surface temperature anomalies in the subtropical North Pacific and their impact on the atmosphere

The postdoctoral positions are available now at the International Pacific Research Center (IPRC), University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM). These positions are part of a collaborative research project between the IPRC and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC). The postdocs will be based at UHM but will work closely with JAMSTEC researchers through remote meetings and visits to JAMSTEC, Yokohama or Yokosuka. Particular focus will be paid to the factors causing and maintaining the observed anomalies in SST in the subtropical North Pacific, and their influence on the large-scale atmospheric circulation (postdoc 1) and atmospheric variability such as atmospheric rivers and easterly waves (postdoc 2).

Applicants should have a recent PhD or be close to completion. The successful candidates will have experience in designing, running and analyzing numerical experiments of the ocean, atmosphere or coupled system, as well as analysis of observations. Initial appointment will be until the end of March 2020, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years based on satisfactory performance and continued funding. Applicants are asked to submit (1) a cover letter describing their research experience, (2) a CV, and (3) contact information for three references, together with preference for which postdoctoral position. Applications should be submitted to Dr. H. Annamalai hanna@hawaii.edu. Questions about the positions can be directed to the same address. Further information about the IPRC can be found at http://iprc.soest.hawaii.edu/ and about JAMSTEC at https://www.jamstec.go.jp.
