Primary Job Responsibilities
As a Benthic Taxonomist based in Southampton you will be working on a range of projects from different sectors collecting and processing marine benthic samples and identifying to species level. Much of our work is for impact assessments and therefore reporting and interpreting data is crucial to the role.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing and undertaking benthic survey programmes
- Liaising with clients and regulators
- Processing benthic samples to species level
- Running Jacobs participation in the NMBAQC Scheme and maintaining technical quality
- Reporting
- Supporting business development initiatives
Essential:
- At least one years' experience of processing benthic invertebrate samples.
- Excellent taxonomic skills
- Degree in a relevant discipline
- Proven ability to work as part of a team, and able to organise efficient laboratory work
- Ability to write clear, concise reports and interpret data
- Proven track record in quality control / audits / accreditations
Desirable:
- Post graduate degree
- Experience of running a laboratory or benthic team
- Other taxonomic skills (e.g. fish, ichthyoplankton or zooplankton)
- Able to undertake statistical analysis of data
- RYA Sea Survival
- Knowledge of relevant Directives and Legislation
