 Job announcement (Bio-02/2013) Marine Microbial EcologyThe Leibniz-Institute for Baltic Sea Research (IOW) announces a full-time position for aSenior Scientistwithin the department of Biological Oceanography, starting on October 15, 2013. The payment for this position will be EG13 according to the German TV-L. The position will be limited to 5 years (2+3). Challenge The IOW is an independent institute of the Leibniz Society with a research emphasis on coastal and marginal seas in general and the Baltic Sea in particular. The scientists of the four departments (Physical Oceanography, Marine Chemistry, Biological Oceanography and Marine Geology) are working interdisciplinary within a common research program and with the support of a special working group for the development of new technologies. The advertised position is within the Working Group "Microbial Ecology" (Head: Prof. K. Jürgens). One focus are the microbial communities and biogeochemical transformations in marine oxygen deficient systems. Innovative research is planned by a combination of approaches, including "MetaOmics", single cells sequencing, molecular diversity analyses and biogeochemical process measurements. More information: www.io-warnemuende.de Preconditions For this line of research we seek for a post-doctoral scientist with profound knowledge in the analysis of "MetaOmics" and "Next Generation Sequencing" data, with experience in microbiological and biogeochemical studies of microbial assemblages, documented by publications in peer-reviewed journals, and with experience in the organisation and supervision of scientific studies.
