We are looking to recruit an ambitious and creative individual in the field of ocean biogeochemistry and the carbon biological pump. Our research group is interested in understanding how carbon is stored and recycled in the ocean. This post is within the multidisciplinary COMICS (Controls over Ocean Mesopelagic Interior Carbon Storage) a large grant project funded by NERC. You will work with Professor George Wolff at the University of Liverpool and other partners, namely the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton who lead the project, the British Antarctic Survey and Queen Mary College, University of London. There is the opportunity for you to develop through participation in a large multidisciplinary research cruise to the Benguela Upwelling off South West Africa and by collaborating with biogeochemists, microbiologists and modellers.

Skills and experience in organic geochemistry or lipid biochemistry are desirable, but additional training is available for exceptional candidates. You will come with your own research ideas, but also operate as part of a wider team of researchers concerned with similar questions within the research group. There is funding to present our results at key international conferences. You will be expected to play a full role in the timely write-up and publication of the results in the best international journals. You should have a PhD in Ocean Biogeochemistry, Organic Geochemistry or a related discipline. The post is available until 30 November 2019.
