Tenure Track Faculty Position - Observational Coastal/Estuarine Physical Oceanography
The Horn Point Laboratory (HPL) of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Observational Coastal/Estuarine Physical Oceanography to complement and extend our existing strengths in interdisciplinary observations and modeling. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program, to be committed to graduate education, and to reach across disciplinary boundaries. UMCES conducts research on a wide range of environmental science topics from its three laboratories across the state and participates in graduate education through the University of Maryland Marine, Estuarine and Environmental Science Program. Current research areas among the 29 faculty members at the Horn Point Laboratory include: Physical Oceanography, Coastal Sedimentology, Food-Web Dynamics, Ecological Forecasting, Aquaculture, Restoration Ecology, and Biogeochemical Cycling. Facilities include a new state-of-the-art coastal research vessel, the R/V Rachael Carson, as well as ma-chine and electronics shops, a partnership with the Alliance for Coastal Technology, and a soon to be constructed Information Technology Center.
The position requires a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience. Preference will be given to candidates at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates at higher levels will be considered. UMCES is an equal opportunity employer, and we strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups in physi-cal oceanography.
Review of applications will begin August 1, 2009.
Candidates should send electronic copies of their letter of application, curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, and the names and addresses of three academic referees to: Ms. Jamie Shockley, Faculty Search Coordinator, jparks@hpl.umces.edu.
