INSTITUTE OF MARINE SCIENCES, METU
www.ims.metu.edu.tr

The Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) of the Middle East Technical University (METU) is located on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey with the main University campus in Ankara. With its approximately 30 researchers and students, a major aim of IMS is to conduct research oriented towards the management of marine resources through an understanding of the environment. Collaborative investigations in the Mediterranean and the Black seas have been particularly productive towards this goal.

Our Institute invites applications for an 18 month

Postdoc position in Coupled Biogeochemical - Physical Modelling
as part of the EU FP7 EUROBASIN project

The focus of the research will be to describe, understand and predict the impact of climate change and variability and mans activity (fisheries) on marine ecosystem structure and function in the North Atlantic Ocean and adjacent shelf seas. To achieve this we will take a basin-scale modelling approach, simulating the response of marine ecosystems by considering four classes of experiment using coupled physical-biogeochemical-MTL models: re-analysis forced simulations, climate-scenario forced simulations, top down control perturbation experiments and a fully coupled end to end ecosystem model.

The main responsibility of the fellow will be to use the high resolution (1/12) version of NEMO-shelf set up for the northern North Atlantic coupled with BFM using the DRAKKAR forcing, and to perform 25yr hindcast simulations for the period 1980-2005 in collaboration with leading European and USA institutions (NERC, PML, CLS, IMR CNRS, UHAM, WHOI, MAINE, MIT, UMASS).

We offer a competitive salary as well as public sector social benefits and housing on campus. For further details, please contact: Dr. Baris Salihoglu, baris@ims.metu.edu.tr.

Please send your application as soon as possible including a CV, a brief statement of research interests and contact details of two referees. Position start date is December 2010.
