About the role
Leading a dedicated team, you'll help ensure the effective, risk-managed enforcement of marine activities in English waters. We'll look to you to coordinate, plan and task both surface and aerial surveillance, as well as managing the relevant contracts. You'll also work with other neighbouring Member States through Joint Deployment Plans.
A key part of your role will be to oversee operational requirements for our Vessel Monitoring System, while offering legislative and technical advice to coastal teams and surveillance contractors. We'll expect you to manage an out-of-hours duty officer roster, as well as providing updates and training to our staff. Not least, you'll participate in sea duties and contribute to the National Maritime Information Centre (NMIC).
We'll expect you to have relevant maritime experience, preferably in a similar monitoring and enforcement role. In addition, you'll need extensive experience of managing and leading a team. Your ability to get the best quality service from external contractors will also prove essential.
It's likely that you're educated to degree level. What's certain is that you've the effective
communication skills needed to explain issues and present ideas in a clear, structured, objective and persuasive way. You must also be willing to travel regularly
