  • The fate of freshwater in a highenergy coastal system: interpreting observations and improving models
  • The life cycle of high-frequency internal waves in shelf seas; from generation to dissipation
  • The Impact of Geothermal and Hydrothermal fluxes on the Abyssal Ocean Circulation
  • Into the Abyss: Understanding Deep Ocean Internal Tides
  • Air-sea coupling in the coastal ocean: exploring marine boundary layer dynamics and implications for regional climate and weather prediction
  • The coastal ocean atmosphere boundary layer and air-sea momentum transfer
  • Wave energy in the Pentland Firth
  • The impact of sea ice loss on freshwater pathways and transformation in the Arctic basin
  • Identifying and characterizing shelf edge cascading on multi-decadal timescales
  • The Bering Strait Throughflow and Sea Level
  • Global and regional sea level response to geoengineering by 2100
  • Predictability of Regional Sea Level Dynamics
  • How do carbon emissions affect the ocean cycling of carbon and sea level rise?
  • Variability in Estuarine Processes: from intratidal to annual time scales in a hypertidal estuary
  • Physical Controls on Nutrient Fluxes on Hypertidal Estuaries
  • The evolution of turbulence within a seasonally stratifying shelf sea

All applicants should have, or expect to achieve, a first class or upper second degree in a relevant numerate discipline such as physics, mathematics, or oceanography.

Funding for this studentship is restricted to UK and EU nationals who fulfil NERC's eligibility requirements. More information is available from the Natural Environment Research Council's website.

To apply email NOCL_phdenquiries@noc.ac.uk. In your covering email letter please state where you saw the advertisment, confirm your eligibility for the award, and indicate which of the projects that you are applying for. Please also include a CV.
