With sites in Liverpool and Southampton, it is the UK's leading centre for sea level science, coastal and deep ocean research and technology development. Working closely with its partners and associates it provides capability to meet the needs across the UK marine science community. Our Centre, at Southampton, represents a collaborative partnership with the University of Southampton's School of Ocean and Earth Science (OES); this partnership is underpinned by the Graduate School of NOCS, which, with over 200 PhD students, represents one of the largest postgraduate marine science communities in the World - http://noc.ac.uk/gsnocs. The NERC Directorate of Science and Technology at the NOC contains five research groups. Our science has high socio-economic impact and tackles many of the major environmental issues of immediate concern to both Government and public. We are now looking to recruit a high-quality candidate to an open-ended post to strengthen our analytical support and laboratory management within the Marine Geoscience Group. http://noc.ac.uk/science-technology/research-groups/mg The post holder will underpin the group's research activities, which range from study of sub-seafloor hydrothermal and volcanic systems, to the development of novel proxies for environmental change, and the development of biogeochemical sensors. The primary responsibilities of the post holder will include: (1) The operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation including an ICP-MS, ICP-OES and GC-IRMS (http://noc.ac.uk/science-technology/research-groups/mg/marine-geochemistry/analytical-facilities). (2) Provision of training and support for new and existing users of this instrumentation and our state-of-the-art clean laboratories, as well as specialist advice for research activities. (3) Effective management of lab budgets and health and safety. The post holder should be able and willing to undertake limited work at sea in support of offshore research expeditions. Depending on the experience of the successful candidate, there may be opportunities to pursue individual research, and co-supervise graduate students as part of the large and energetic graduate school at NOCS.
