About the role:
We seek a dynamic and pro-active early career researcher to support the Seafloor & Habitat Mapping team in the delivery of a series of habitat mapping projects, both in shallow and deep waters. The role will mainly involve participation in projects in the sphere of overseas development, and will include data acquisition (through expeditions at sea, or from overseas coastal states), processing, interpretation and communication under the form of research publications, reports, and presentations to scientific and non-scientific audiences. You will also have the chance to develop your own research ideas as part of the habitat mapping team.
This is a Fixed Term Appointment, available up until 31 March 2018, offered on NERC terms and conditions and is open to internal and external candidates.
This is a Band 6 position and the salary will be between £28,200 and £32,130 per annum.
Hours of Work:
The hours of working are full time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
To be successful you must have a background in habitat mapping, and be familiar with various acoustic survey methods and seafloor classification techniques. You will be confident with GIS and have good numerical/mathematical skills. Although not essential, experience of working with ROVs and AUVs is a bonus, as is knowledge of predictive habitat mapping techniques and programming. We are especially looking for a candidate who can work across disciplines and think 'outside the box'.
