School of Ocean and Earth Science,
National Oceanography Centre, Southampton
Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
£27,319 - £29,853 per annum
The School of Ocean and Earth Science are looking to appoint a full-time Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to provide support for a NERC-funded research project which is co-ordinated by Professor Eelco Rohling. The project will develop a stratigraphically continuous record of sea-level change in unprecedented time-steps of a century, covering an entire glacial cycle. This will be quantitatively compared with ice-core records of especially temperature and CO2 concentrations. The project will therefore determine the fundamental nature of the pre-anthropogenic relationship between global ice volume, temperature and CO2 concentrations, and evaluate how rapidly the Earth climate system can adapt to a change in forcing.
You will be expected to lead the main analytical effort, the quantitative/statistical data analyses, publication/ dissemination, and the setting up and running of a public-access project website. You should have a PhD in an Earth, Ocean, or (palaeo)-climate science discipline. Practical experience in geochemical/isotope analyses as well as a sound experience in statistics and the use of programmes such as MATLAB or similar is essential
This post is initially for 3 years and is available from 1 June 2010. The salary is in the range of £27,319 to £29,853 per annum.
