Coring Technician for Marine Sediments
Sampling Group (MARSSAM)

The Oregon State University MARSSAM Group is searching for a full-time coring technician. The coring technician will be responsible for the safe deployment and recovery of coring equipment at sea, and will advise the scientific party on how to appropriately collect and curate sediment samples. The coring technician will aid in all aspects of the construction, maintenance, and shipping of coring equipment to globally-distributed University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) expeditions. Salary range for the position is $45,000-$55,000, depending on experience.

The successful candidate will have at least a BSc in science and engineering (MSc in marine geology/marine science preferred), have aptitude and experience handling mechanical equipment, be able to drive, and preferably have had experience working at sea. This position involves international travel, frequently to remote locations with limited amenities, and the successful candidate must be able to work long hours in a variety of outdoor conditions during deployments as well as lift and assemble equipment on deck with constituent parts of up to 50 lbs while at sea. The candidate must also be committed to maintaining a safe and respectful working environment and demonstrate a commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
