School of Biological SciencesResearch Fellow (Marine Biodiscovery Database)Ref: 08/100371Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher to participate in a major multidisciplinary all-Ireland consortium called Marine Biodiscovery funded under the NDP-funded Sea Change programme of the Marine Institute, Ireland. This consortium aims to develop a leading capability in the utilisation of marine organisms and materials for the production of drugs, advanced biomaterials and neutraceuticals in Ireland. Although employed by Queens, Belfast, the post-holder will be located initially in the Marine Institute, Galway (www.marine.ie). The post-holder will design and implement a database inventory of Ireland's marine biodiversity and assist in the analysis of datasets generated. This database, developed with a web-based platform, will act as an OBIS (www.iobis.org) Data Provider, using DiGIR (digir.sourceforge.net), an XML-based request and response protocol, to exchange information with OBIS nodes, and mashup technology to obtain chemical, genetic and biological data relevant to given species.
