Project and Knowledge Exchange Officer (Research Support)

(Part-time, three year fixed-term)
You will have responsibility for the effective administrative running and management of two scientific research projects, under the direction of the co-ordinators. You will also be responsible for communicating the scientific goals and findings of the projects to the public and policy-makers. You will be based in the Academic Unit of Ocean and Earth Science at the National Oceanography Centre and will need to interact successfully with other administrative officers in the Academic Unit and University, also with other knowledge exchange and outreach professionals both in Southampton and elsewhere.
Duties will include assistance in preparation of reports and documents, co-ordination of activities, monitoring and preparing budgets, and resolving day-to-day queries independently. You will be responsible for organising consortium meetings, and maintaining and updating websites. You will use initiative to implement the projects' knowledge exchange (impact) plans through websites, leaflets, blogs, press releases, liaison with other relevant knowledge exchange officers and press offices, and contact with end-users.
It would be desirable for you to have a strong interest in oceanography and earth science, as well as in communicating science. It is essential for you to have very good computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and website package (i.e. Adobe GoLive). Furthermore, excellent inter-personal and communication skills are necessary, as this role will involve communication with scientists and stakeholders. Although not essential for the post, some experience and interest in website design and implementation would be helpful.
The position is initially offered as a part-time (3.5 days per week), fixed-term post for three years.
