The United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) aims to put the best available biodiversity information in front of national, regional and global decision makers. The Centre is the result of a collaborative agreement between UNEP and WCMC, a UK Charity. The role: The primary focus of this position is to fulfill UNEP’s obligations under an EU-funded research project, Hotspot Ecosystem Research and Man's Impact On European Seas (HERMIONE), as well as provide support to UNEP in the development of a Project Identification Form (PIF) that will form a component of a Global Environment Facility Programme on Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction, currently in development.

Key responsibilities: The post holder will collaborate with HERMIONE partners to apply their research and data to identify vulnerable habitats and species for improved management using different criteria or policy frameworks. They will also provide support to HERMIONE partners on science-policy interfacing of HERMIONE research. Furthermore, be responsible for managing UNEP’s role in the HERMIONE project, including keeping track of budgets, deliverables, reporting, etc.

The candidate: The successful candidate will hold a degree in applied marine science or a related field, with demonstrated applied knowledge of spatial planning techniques. They will have proven and relevant work experience in the analysis of biodiversity information to inform conservation management and policy decision making. They will also be able to demonstrate a proven track record in project management, research, data analyses, international conservation exposure, as well as the ability to write scientifically credible reports. They will have an understanding of the essential characteristics of successful partnershipbuilding and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively.
