Assistant Instructor
Mining and Mineral Exploration Technology Program
The Mining and Mineral Exploration Technology program at BCIT is a diverse department that offers a two-year diploma program, an Aboriginal Minerals Training program, a range of continuing education courses and a growing compliment of online courses.
The diploma program is the core of the department's activities. It is a broad-based, intensive, two-year program that prepares students for employment in the mining and mineral exploration industries. Graduates of the program can be found throughout Western Canada and beyond in a diversity of positions. Program faculty are key to the success of the program through excellence in instruction, close ties with industry and by mentoring and motivating students to succeed.
The program is currently seeking a temporary Assistant Instructor who is enthusiastic, team-oriented and has broad, practical knowledge of the mining and mineral exploration industries.
The successful candidate will be expected to assist with a variety of courses in the diploma program that will include physical geology, mineralogy and petrology, structural geology, mineral deposits, mineral exploration and field school. The successful applicant will also be expected to coordinate the offerings of online and face-to-face part-time studies classes. There will also be opportunities to teach one or more online courses and contribute to the development of new continuing education courses.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree in geology, geological engineering, or mining engineering with preference given to candidates with a graduate degree in these fields; candidates with a degree in other related fields combined with strong industry experience will also be considered
- Four years' experience in mineral exploration or mining
- Experience in geological and/or mineral exploration field work is an asset
- Demonstrable instructional skills; previous teaching or training experience preferred
- Current membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC) or eligibility to register with APEGBC is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)
- Solid organizational, leadership and team skills
