GEOLOGIST

Cleveland Potash, a wholly owned subsidiary of Israel Chemicals Limited, has a vacancy for a geologist at its Boulby Mine. The mine, which is located close to the coast in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, produces more than 3.5 million tonnes of potash and salt per annum and is one of the largest and deepest mines in Europe.

A continuous programme of underground drilling, involving long horizontal boreholes with multiple deflections, facilitates forward mine planning. Recording and processing results from the drilling programme and applying them to the mine planning is a major part of the work of the Geology Department. The work is demanding and involves a substantial proportion of time spent underground, in the mine, in challenging conditions. Minimum academic requirements are a good degree in Geology or Applied/Mining Geology.

The Job

You will join a team of geologists and supporting staff, working closely with other technical and production personnel. Work will include, but not limited to -

  • Logging borehole cores from the underground drilling programme.
  • Planning and controlling borehole trajectories, entering and processing the results into a database.
  • Mapping and sampling underground development headings.
  • Interpreting geological data from core logging and mapping.
  • Participation in mine planning and grade control.
The job is well suited to a geology graduate aiming to pursue a rewarding career in the mining industry. Your knowledge and skills will be developed with a view to progressing your career with Cleveland Potash.

The Person
To be successful, you will be a graduate in Geology (or Mining/Applied Geology) with a broad background of science disciplines. Previous mining experience would be an advantage but is not essential as full training and development will be an integral part of the work. Strong computer skills will also be an advantage. You will be self-motivated, reliable, fluent in English and able to get on well with colleagues.

General
The job involves regular underground duties.
In accordance with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are permitted to work in the UK.
Applicants must also hold a valid UK driving licence.

Please forward your full curriculum vitae to Matthew Slaughter, Personnel Manager, at Cleveland Potash Limited, Boulby Mine, Loftus, Saltburn, Cleveland, TS13 4UZ; or e-mail.

Remuneration
The starting salary for this position will be at an attractive rate, which will be commensurate with experience. The Company offers private healthcare and pension schemes. Assistance with relocation will be provided, where appropriate.
