EIT RawMaterials, initiated and funded by the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology), a body of the European Union, is the largest and strongest consortium in the raw materials sector worldwide. Its vision is to develop raw materials into a major strength for Europe. Its mission is to boost competitiveness, growth and attractiveness of the European raw materials sector via radical innovation, new educational approaches and guided entrepreneurship.

EIT RawMaterials unites more than 120 partners from leading industry, universities and research institutions from more than 20 EU countries. Partners of EIT RawMaterials are active across the entire raw materials value chain; from exploration, mining and mineral processing to substitution, recycling and circular economy. They collaborate on finding new, innovative solutions to secure the supplies and improve the raw materials sector in Europe.

There are six regional Innovation Hubs in Belgium, Finland, France, Italy, Poland and Sweden, called Co-Location Centres (CLCs) that represent different regional ecosystems connecting industry, research and education.

EIT RawMaterials aims to significantly enhance innovation in the raw materials sector by sharing knowledge, facilitating matchmaking activities, developing innovative technologies and supporting business creation.

EIT RawMaterials will generate a significant impact on European competitiveness and employment by driving and fostering innovation and empowering students, entrepreneurs and education partners driving towards the circular economy. This will result in the introduction of innovative and sustainable products, processes and services, as well as talented people that will deliver increased economic, environmental and social sustainability to the European society. In order to drive the development and growth of EIT RawMaterials in the Innovation Hub North is currently recruiting an Education Manager to be based in Luleå, Sweden.

Each Innovation Hub of EIT RawMaterials has an Education Manager who focuses on the education programmes, and from an operational point of view, the Education Managers in the Innovation Hubs act as leaders, coordinators and enablers of multiple Innovation Hub based education programmes and projects covering PhD Education, Master Education, Lifelong Education and Wider Society Learning. The Education Manager of the Innovation Hub North is a member of the Innovation Community´s Education Team that makes the so-called "EIT RawMaterials Academy". The Education team consists of the Education Managers in the other Innovation Hubs, additional colleagues in the headquarters in Berlin and the Education Director, also based in Berlin.

The EIT RawMaterials Academy aims to educate the future raw materials specialists and enhance innovation and entrepreneurship among students and partner organizations. The EIT RawMaterials Academy builds upon the excellence of the EIT RawMaterials partnership and delivers courses and programmes on master and doctoral level along with training and courses for professionals.

Position

Your mission and responsibilities

This position has two related areas of responsibility.

  1. Leading the education activities in the Innovation Hub with focus on Innovation Hub consortium partners, incl.:
    • Supporting Innovation Hub partners in developing new, competitive funding proposals related to the raw materials value chain in the following areas: Higher Education (Master and PhD level), lifelong learning programs (education for professionals), outreach programs targeted to the society (Wide-Society learning)
    • Being the main contact for all Innovation Hub partners. This includes monitoring project's progress and performances, and trouble-shooting, when necessary
    • Evaluating regional industry needs regarding skills & competencies of their current and future workforce, in conjunction with industrial partners
    • Developing and executing an education strategy with a focus on the needs of the raw materials value chain for the Innovation Hub North
    • Stimulating and facilitating dialogue and activities between local and regional/international partners in the areas of higher education, schools, professional development
    • Fostering cooperation among industries, research organisations and universities through education programmes, with particular emphasis to entrepreneurship development.
  2. Leading on the development and implementation of the entire organisation's specific education portfolio (to be defined according to organisation's needs and candidate's skills), incl.
    • Contributing to the development and implementation of the Raw Materials Academy together with the entire Education Team (the Education Officers in the other Innovation Hubs and the Education Director)
    • Reporting to the Innovation Hub North Manager (line manager), and through a dotted line to the EIT Education Director (EIT Education Team task manager), based in the organisation's headquarters in Berlin.

Requirements

Your profile

  • At least a Masters Degree in Engineering, Natural Sciences, or Social Sciences with focus on Higher Education Pedagogics. PhD degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing projects or programs, ideally in an international context and diverse matrix organization(s) (business, universities) - experience with educational programs and / or raw materials sector will be considered an extra asset
  • Good understanding of the higher education system in general and/or knowledge of the market related to professional education (lifelong learning)
  • Understanding or strong interest of EU policies related to education and entrepreneurship
  • Good knowledge of Horizon 2020 programs and regulations, gained through e.g., submission and management of Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions
  • An appropriate network of personal contacts in the European raw materials education ecosystem would be an extra asset
  • Fluency in English
  • Understanding of the European Higher Education Area. Knowledge of the Bologna Process is a plus
  • Propensity for broad, flexible and interdisciplinary thinking
  • Partnership/client orientation and capacity for building alliances between industry, universities and research organisations, with particular focus on innovation
  • Ability to problem-solve, excellent project management; communication and interpersonal skills with team working ability; efficient meeting management and organization, and facilitation of groups in workshops or conference formats; high work ethic, proactivity and autonomy in work organization, coordination and discipline, flexibility and ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Positive attitude towards the task / role and enthusiasm in order to create value for the raw materials sector and achieve the desired results and impact.

We would also appreciate applicants with an experience of technology transfer and incubation in the university systems.

Employment, Travels & How to Apply

The Education Manager will be employed by the Innovation Hub North, the physical location is preferably in Luleå. The candidate needs to be prepared to travel several times per month to the Innovation Hub North countries and to different EIT RawMaterials locations across Europe.
