Battery Mineral Resources Ltd. - Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC) Post Doctoral Fellow

Battery Mineral Resources (BMR), a private exploration and development company, is aggressively exploring in the Cobalt Embayment over an area extending from the Gowganda and Elk Lake areas north of Sudbury to Ville Marie in western Quebec. The geology of the area is dominated by Proterozoic-aged (ca. 2.4 Ga.) sedimentary rocks of the Cobalt Group unconformably overlying Archean (ca. 2.7 Ga) rocks of the Abitibi Subprovince, all of which are intruded by Nipissing diabase dykes and sills.
The BMR – MERC PDF will be an integral member of the BMR exploration team and will be responsible for constructing the volcanic-stratigraphic framework of the Proterozoic and Archean rocks to outline the regional controls on the distribution of veins and the potential sources of the ore metals. This position would also holistically address metal and mineralogical zoning within the Gowganda-Elk Lake district, through new mapping, sampling and geologic compilation, and develop this understanding into a regional exploration model. Previous exploration and research in the district has focused on silver-dominated veins, which was the main commodity of interest, and much less consideration has been given to the cobalt-dominated systems. This proposed research will focus on cobalt distribution as a first priority and the spatial and temporal distribution of cobalt versus silver dominated systems.
The successful candidate will have strong background in field mapping in complexly deformed environments along with experience in geochemistry and geochronology. The candidate will have a strong background in geologic compilation, interpretation of geophysical datasets and GIS - 3D geologic modeling software. Previous experience in cobalt mineral systems is an asset.
The position is based at Laurentian University in Sudbury with 3-4 months of fieldwork each summer. Salary range is dependent on experience, and will include benefits.
