Project Manager, Thompson Smelter Emissions Reduction

Description:

The Project Manager will lead a team of engineering, procurement, construction, operational, environmental, and financial professionals to successfully implement the process flowsheet changes necessary to comply with future emission regulations. This person will provide overall leadership to the project team and communicate project issues to management.

The project manager will initially be located in the Mississauga offices of the Business Development Group during the early engineering studies and option screening phases with regular visits to the operating facility in Thompson Manitoba. During the Feasibility Study and detail design the project manager will be required to spend a significant amount of time in the offices of the engineering firm selected for the project. This person will be required to relocate to Thompson, Manitoba early in the execution phase of the project, remaining there through to project completion, commissioning and handover to operations.

Position Requirements:

  • Well versed in mine engineering & design, project management standards, safety, maintenance, procurement and implementation.
  • Construction management and contract negotiation experience.
  • Strong experience managing large-scale relationships (both external and internal, i.e. construction contractors, site staff and external suppliers).
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment; effective communicator; problem solving skills; and strong organizational skills
  • Continuous improvement approach to getting things done and a track record of improving things.

  • Strong "operational" orientation
  • Managing large industrial projects totaling $250 million and above

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and/or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years hands-on experience in Construction Management, Project Engineering, Engineering design and or feasibility and site operational experience preferably within the heavy industrial sectors. Mining/mineral extraction, smelting and reefing industry experience an preferable.
  • 3-5 years large industrial mining project management

License/Professional Requirements:

  • PEng and PMP designations preferred.
