Faculty position at Yachay Tech University, Ecuador: Petrology/Mineralogy, Mineral Resources/Economic Geology

The School of Earth Sciences, Energy and Environment at Yachay Tech University (Ecuador) invites applicants for a faculty position in the field of Petrology, Mineralogy, Mineral Resources and Economic Geology. The expected start date is August 1, 2019. We seek applicants with a commitment to teaching, research, and partnership building with resource industries and research organizations in Ecuador and elsewhere.

The candidate should have a PhD in geology or a related field, with relevant experience in the area of igneous and metamorphic petrology, and a focus on mineral resources and ore deposits. The candidate should show a strong publication record and evidence of teaching experience. Previous industry, post-doctoral and/or academic experience will be considered favorably. Familiarity with the Ecuadorian mining sector is an asset, as the mining sector in Ecuador is expected to grow quickly in the next decade, providing many opportunities to create industry/academia partnerships.

The candidate will be expected to establish a research program in Petrology and Economic Geology as well as to participate in teaching and student advising activities within the School. The main teaching duties are Mineralogy (including optical), Petrology (igneous and metamorphic) and Mineral Resources. The candidate is also expected to occasionally help with other electives such as Economic Geology and other courses in support of the School's teaching needs. Classes are taught using the block system (e.g., https://www.coloradocollege.edu/basics/blockplan/). Most of the teaching duties will be carried out in English, therefore the applicant needs to demonstrate a sufficient English language proficiency. Spanish is the working language at Yachay Tech; if the candidate's mother tongue is not Spanish, the candidate should have the ambition to learn Spanish.
