International oil and gas exploration and production company who’s focus is finding and developing oil and natural gas, through exploration programs and field developments, in deepwater Gulf of Mexico, Malaysia and the Congo.

Due to continued expansion in SE Asia, there is a requirement for an experienced Development Geophysicist within the Sub-surface Evaluation Team in Kuala Lumpur. The position requires a substantial and current knowledge of trends in the geoscience disciplines and while the primary responsibilities will be hands-on, an ability to act as a technical mentor and advisor to others will be a key component of the position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work within dynamic multi-disciplinary environment across a range of pre-development and development assets, ensuring application of best practice in geoscience principles.

  • Conduct and review seismic interpretations of field development assets for reservoir model characterisation and field development planning.

  • Ensure integration of Geoscience and Reservoir Engineering data for reservoir characterization.

  • Support and Peer review geophysical interpretations and models carried out by other teams.

  • Represent company at Technical meetings as required.

  • Provide mentoring and skills-development support to other technical staff.

Qualifications/ Experience:

The following skills, qualification and experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Geoscience preferably with an advanced degree (MSc. PhD)

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the upstream petroleum industry, with strong and current capability in 2D and 3D seismic interpretation and rock physics.

  • Must have worked a variety of field development projects.

  • Previous experience of reservoir characterisation and quantitative seismic interpretation

  • Familiarity with structural geology models and experience interpreting faulted reservoirs.

  • Experience of working in close co-operation with other geoscientists and reservoir engineers building iterative reservoir models.

  • High technical capability applied to a broad international knowledge of different field types and their geophysical data as applied to reservoir management and field development.

  • Experience of field development operations and data acquisition.

  • Ability to identify and quantify reservoir uncertainties and Risks

  • Ability to provide peer review and give constructive feedback in support of colleagues.

  • A good communicator with strong teamwork skills. Fluent in written and spoken English.
