Worldwide oil and gas exploration and production company with refining and marketing operations. The Company’s focus is finding oil and natural gas, and that is primarily done through an exploration program that is centered on deepwater Gulf of Mexico and its international prospects. In addition to exploration opportunities in North America, there are significant oil and gas exploration/production in other parts of the globe such as Malaysia and the Congo.

Exploration and Production staff require timely, accurate and high-quality data management and maintenance, project assistance, computing, drafting and clerical services to support their work in assessing the prospectivity of permits and potential acreage acquisitions, and for ongoing appraisal and development of existing assets. This role provides these services. The services provided by this role are of significant value. Having good data produced and available when required contributes to the timely, efficient and successful identification of oil and gas reserves and optimal appraisal and development of reserves.

Challenges:

  • To continually improve turn-around time for services, as well as to find more efficient methods of doing the work, for the exploration and production teams.

  • To continually seek to identify any existing data management shortcomings, and to contribute substantively toward overcoming any such deficiencies.

  • To continually build understanding of the various applications of the geoscience. geo-technical and associated softwares.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Data Entry, Loading and Management: To ensure that data are accurately entered into the various software systems so the data can be readily accessible to the exploration and production teams.

  • Drafting and Reprographics: Generate timely, accurate and high-quality maps and geological cross-sections (maps, well structures, montages, etc) for the exploration and production team.

  • Geoscience Project Work: Complete various projects (computing, composite wells, well proposals, schematics, etc.) for the Exploration and Production team in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Data Transmittals: Ensure that the correct and specific copies of data (geological and geophysical) are sent to the correct Joint Venture parties and government agencies on time.

  • Occupational Health, Safety and Environment: To understand and operate at all times within the Health Safety & Environmental Management System Guidelines within the office and, if in the field, to ensure that all work is done safely and to standard.

Qualifications/ Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • Familiarity with petroleum industry operations with at least five years experience.

  • A degree in geoscience (or equivalent relevant discipline) is preferred.

  • An understanding of basic oil and gas exploration and production operations

  • Advanced computer literacy skills in Landmark software

  • Computer drafting aptitude

  • Experience in spread-sheeting and database operation

  • Commitment to work safely, and to contribute to workplace safety

  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation

  • Flexible and able to cope with change

  • An ability to prioritise work appropriately and efficiently and to meet deadlines

  • Strong inter-personal skills

  • Able to work independently and in a small team
