A large and dynamic oil and gas exploration and production company, committed to developing its world class resource base and continuing its track record of exploration success.
The Role
Our client requires an internationally experienced technical Exploration Geoscientist to provide expert leadership in the integration of geophysical and geological data for prospect definition, ranking and risking.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Screening of new venture and exploration acreage
- Construction of basin models for prospect ranking and screening
- Apply expertise in seismic sequence stratigraphy
- Demonstrate understanding of uncertainty and probabilistic approaches to volumetric determination and prospect ranking and risking
- Interaction with petroleum systems analysts and regional geologists to build seismic sequence stratigraphic interpretations and populate 3D basin models with horizons for risking and uncertainty analysis
- Use of georeferenced data and related applications.
- Define best practice workflows
- Coach and develop geological staff in New Ventures and Exploration
- Facilitate a process for skill transfer and achieving best practice
- Written and verbal reporting of technical studies and appropriate presentation to management, partners and Government bodies and representatives.
The Person
The following skills, experience and qualifications are required:
- Minimum of a degree in a relevant Geoscience discipline
- Minimum 15 years of experience primarily in seismic sequence stratigraphic interpretation across a range of international basins and depositional systems along with broad technical experience in regional New Venture exploration
- Expert understanding of sedimentary basin evolution and petroleum systems analysis, regional evaluation and regional geological processes and workflows
- Ability to integrate multiple types of geophysical and geological data to develop working petroleum system models and use these to input into 3D basin modelling software to predict charge and phase distribution
- Significant experience with an operating oil company is essential, preferably in a multi-disciplinary Exploration asset team with exposure to seismic sequence stratigraphy and petroleum systems analysis
- Understanding of project execution and cost implications.
- Strong current workstation skills, including working in a 3D visualisation environment.
- Team player with open and flexible approach
- Good communicator and presenter
- Experience of mentoring and coaching
- Commercially aware with entrepreneurial attitude
- Willingness to travel extensively.
