Manager, Quantitative Interpretation Group

Position Description:

Reporting to the VP, and working with a team of petrophysical, geological and geophysical specialists, this position is key to the efficient and smooth running of the London office QI team. Management and leadership skills are fundamental to the role and there is a large amount of freedom granted to develop both the people and the business in the way the incumbent sees fit. Due to a high level of activity, the position requires a positive, enthusiastic and experienced person with managerial and supervisory experience. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the oil sector with proven experience of managing a team of geoscientists in an oil company or service company.

Quantitative Interpretation of seismic encompasses Geophysics, Petrophysics, Geology and Reservoir Engineering disciplines. Activities include: rock physics, velocity modelling, well-to-seismic interpretation, acoustic rock and fluid properties analysis, reservoir property modelling, amplitude and AVO assessment, volume interpretation, seismic inversion, pore-pressure prediction and integration with other geophysical techniques such as EM. The QI team performs exploration, appraisal and development related reservoir and fluid prediction services for many International clients.

Key functions include:

  • Day-to-day operational management of an expanding team of geoscientists including the hiring and execution of performance reviews and appraisals
  • Responsible for operational profit and loss and growth of the EAME QI services department
  • Developing and expanding current and new business opportunities, including proposal and tender generation, and attending relevant industry trade shows and exhibitions as required.
  • Quality assurance of all results and data sent to clients. Lead as required relevant client review and project meetings, and assist as necessary with sales presentations and client sales and marketing meetings. Some domestic and international travel will be required.
  • Responsible for implementing new processes and procedures to ensure the smooth running of the group
  • Creation of new business sectors and opportunities

Qualifications/Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • Preferably higher degree level in Geology, Geophysics or other earth or physical science.
  • Extensive exploration work experience as a geophysicist/interpreter.
  • Must have a good working knowledge and understanding of regional geology, geophysics, petrophysics and basic reservoir engineering concepts.
  • Extensive working experience with well to seismic ties, AVO modelling and analysis.
  • Good understanding of and ability to manage and use Rock Properties.
  • Good knowledge of the main interpretation platforms:- Petrel, Kingdom, Landmark, Hampson-Russell and RokDocŪ or equivalent applications.
  • Technical background in the practical application of AVO/AVA analysis, borehole seismic, synthetic seismograms, inverse modelling, forward modelling, fluid substitution modelling and basic reservoir engineering.
  • Understandings of Seismic processing skills required to condition and manipulate seismic data.
