Development Geophysicist

Position Description:

A Canadian-based, global energy company growing value responsibly. The company are strategically positioned in some of the world's most exciting regions: the North Sea, deep-water Gulf of Mexico, Middle East, offshore West Africa and the Canadian Athabasca oil sands.

A thorough ability to interpret 2D and 3D seismic data using the workstation, to derive the maximum structural and stratigraphic information, is required. The geophysicist should show a strong geological understanding, and use it in his/her interpretations. Skills in using the Geoframe and Petrel applications for seismic interpretation are particularly desirable.

The development geophysicist should be able to produce convincing depth conversions of interpreted time structural maps, and generate basic volumetrics from them. An understanding of rock physics, and being able to use seismic to predict rock and fluid properties, is desirable.

Some knowledge of other geophysical areas, such as attribute analysis, 3D processing, VSP design and interpretation, would also be desirable.

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

• Have a degree in a relevant Geoscience discipline

• North Sea experience preferred

• 10 – 15 years experience broad-based experience with a minimum of 5 years in a field development context. International and operational experience obtained in a variety of geological settings is preferred.

• Have been directly involved in the preparation of reserves estimates, field development plans and execution of fast track development projects.

• Be experienced in and comfortable with a “non-major” oil company environment where internal technical back-up and head office support is limited.

• Possess drive, enthusiasm and a no-nonsense, results oriented and cost efficient approach.
