Staff Exploration Geologist

Position Description:

Worldwide oil and gas exploration and production company with refining and marketing operations. The Company’s focus is finding oil and natural gas, and that is primarily done through an exploration program that is centered on deepwater Gulf of Mexico and its international prospects. In addition to exploration opportunities in North America, there are significant oil and gas exploration/production in other parts of the globe such as Malaysia and the Congo.

Seeking a well rounded exploration geologist with at least 12 years experience. This is a senior role and the incumbent will be pivotal in effecting the continued drive for the Company’s expansion of their position in Canada. As an International oil company, they would look to develop the career of the right person through future postings in Canada or abroad.

Responsibilities of the role include:

• Responsible for the evaluation of basins, plays and prospects throughout Canada.

• Regional analysis resulting in recommendations for appropriate areas for new venture entries.

• New venture assessments (land sales, acquisitions etc).

• Prospect definition and quantification, through close collaboration with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, economists etc.

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

• A higher degree in geoscience will be well regarded.

• A minimum of 12 years experience.

• Proven experience in developing play analyses linked to prospect definition and exploration drilling.

• Experience in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin is required.

• Resource play, particularly shale and tight gas, experience is beneficial.

• Familiarity with industry-standard software, including seismic interpretation, is a must.

• Efficient worker with strong decision making skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
