Senior Geologist - Geomodeller

Position Description:

Key Objectives:

  • Establish technically accurate reservoir descriptions for field and sub-surface assets and projects.
  • Conduct detailed technical evaluations of rock and fluid distributions in individual reservoir systems utilizing petrophysical, geological and seismic data.
  • Define standard and special core analysis programs for dynamic reservoir properties for inputs into analytical and numerical simulation models.
  • Build, update and or provide input to fully integrated geological models, including accurate fault modelling, (3D geo-cellular models) for input into reservoir simulation utilizing latest geological modelling techniques and numerical analysis methods (Petrel).
  • Optimize Appraisal/Development well locations in conjunction with the geophysicist(s) and reservoir engineer(s) using Petrel as the common work platform.
  • Work closely with drilling engineers, operations geologists, petrophysicists and reservoir engineers on all aspects of well planning and implementation.
  • Provide geological input to well workover / recompletion proposals and activities.
  • Provide technical input to drilling programs for appraisal and development wells (Geological X sections, correlations and facies models).
  • Prepare and present technical data to partners during all stages of project evaluation, well proposals, Field Development Plan’s and project implementations, to achieve endorsements and approvals for proposed work activities.
  • Conduct resource assessments to guidelines for all oil and gas fields and provide technical inputs into ARPR submissions.
  • Provide training and mentoring for technical knowledge and skills development for junior geologists and Malaysian graduate trainees.
  • Establish and maintain technical database of all geological interpretation.
  • Supervise third-party consultants and vendors providing study work.
  • Provide senior management with task schedules, work plans, regular progress reports and inputs into management reports (weekly, monthly)

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develop detailed knowledge and understanding of the geology, stratigraphy and sedimentary history of the company’s portfolio of fields.
  • Apply modern understanding of facies and play concepts in order to build effective predictive tools for reservoir development decisions and field evaluations.
  • Control activities of technical support and data analysis according to business plan.
  • Prepare and review geological study specifications, third party work programs and procedures for geological characterization.
  • Input into annual reserves evaluation process (ARPR).
  • Solve all technical problems relating to geological and geomodelling tasks relating to the accurate characterisation of subsurface reservoir systems.
  • Provide support, guidance, training of subordinates for their career development through enhancement of their knowledge and technical skills in all matters related to geological principles.
  • Liaise with other technical and commercial disciplines (drilling, reservoir, production, petroleum, commercial) to ensure constructive and full integration of pertinent data into all reservoir asset evaluations.
  • Provide management support information for the compilation of regular progress reports, project status, resource assessment and development option reviews.

Qualifications/Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • University Degree/Master’s Degree (or higher) in Geology required.
  • A minimum of 15 years experience working in an E&P or service related Company on field developments is essential.
  • Familiarity with reservoir parameter analysis (porosity, permeability etc).
  • Proven experience building fault and 3D geo-cellular models using the Petrel software essential. Including geological correlations, facies analysis and well planning.
  • Previous exposure to a broad range of geoscience skills essential. (e.g. reservoir geological modelling (2D & 3D), reservoir property mapping, net pay calculations, well planning and Sedimentology.
  • Proven experience in the use of an industry standard mapping software (e.g. PetroSys, CPS3, ZMAP, etc.) advantageous.
  • Proven experience in the use of an industry standard geological interpretation software (e.g. Stratlog, StratWorks, GeoScene, Terralog etc.) advantageous.
  • Knowledge of a related discipline (such as sedimentology or petrophysics) would be beneficial.
  • The ability to present conclusions and recommendations clearly and succinctly and, when necessary, in non-technical language.
  • The ability to mentor and transfer knowledge of 3D Modelling workflows.
  • Work effectively within the team.
  • Self motivated with a proven record of achieving targets
  • Proven communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English-written and spoken
