Structural Geologist

Position Description:

The structural geologist will act as the focal point for structural studies in the Company. A major part of this position will be to pro-actively advise and provide direct support to asset and study teams regarding kinematics interpretations, fault interpretations, structural styles, deformation history and fracture modelling. Much of the work will be done following a Work Place Learning approach to develop young professional staff.

In addition to the consultancy work, the role of the structural Geologist is to ensure that structural interpretations within the Company are of adequate quality and consistency. QC work may either be part of the integrated team work, informal technical reviews or formal risk and resource assessments. The candidate will also need to build on and run existing structural and fracture characterisation courses in conjunction with the Company Learning Centre

  • Actively coach young professionals with respect to Structural geology.

  • Provide solid consultancy regarding the regional tectonic and structural styles, to Exploration and Development study teams. Liaise with Exploration and Development Planning teams to pro-actively scope structural geology and fractured reservoir opportunities.

  • Provide solid consultancy regarding fracture characterisation workflow and tools to Exploration and Development study teams.

  • Enhance and conduct structural geology training courses

  • Collect the Company needs with regard to fracture modelling, follow and steer research efforts where relevant

  • Support the Company’s reputation by publications and attendance at regional conferences

  • Maintain, enhance and internally promote the Company’s web based structural geology toolkit

  • Identify opportunities for enhancing the application of IT, DM and KM to embed a high standard of structural geological interpretation and fractured reservoir modelling

  • Team member of a subsurface disciplines consultancy team. Participate in activities in order to enhance sustainable production geosciences capabilities.

  • Prepare documentation, presentations and workshops related to specific structural geology and fractured reservoir subjects.

  • Provide technical coaching, using the Study Centre Work Place Learning “toolkit”, ranging from hands on technical support to assigned coach. Peer challenge and QA/QC of staff work outside of the immediate team.

Qualifications/Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • University degree in Geology. Strong theoretical background in structural geology with relevant experience level of 10 years or more in the oil/gas EP industry.
  • Solid experience with 2D and 3D seismic interpretation (Petrel SI is recommendable) in integrated field development planning
  • Broad experience from a variety of structural settings and basins
  • Solid experience with fractured reservoir identification and modeling tools
  • Knowledge of fault and fracture seal analysis will be an advantage
  • Web development skills using Frontpage and Sharepoint will be an advantage
  • Enthusiastic and strong team player with good communication skills and the ability to engage, coach and motivate others
