A leading global independent energy company, engaged in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. Exploration and production is the engine of future income and growth, currently representing nearly 70% of capital employed and over 95% of annual capital expenditures. The Company has operations in the United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Azerbaijan, Thailand and Indonesia.

Lead a team of 2 – 4 engineers and geoscientists responsible for reserves reporting, budget planning, and new business development support activities. The team will coordinate reserves reporting and forecasting activities amongst the SE Asia based subsurface teams. The team will also coordinate budget planning activities and prepare economic evaluations. Technical support will be provided for New Business Development and Exploration activities in the region as required to grow the business. The successful candidate will play a key role in coaching and developing national staff as part of an overall succession planning process.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate reserves and resource reporting activities, including quarterly reserves forecasts and annual year-end reserves reporting.

  • Assist in preparing annual reserves transaction memos and streamline procedures

  • Coach the organization in SEC compliant reserves reporting methods and documentation

  • Identify opportunities to optimise the booking of reserves

  • Coordinate preparation of annual budgets and asset value plan economic runs

  • Handle complex PSC economic evaluations

  • Develop and implement near field exploration strategies

  • Provide technical support of New Business Development and Exploration as required.

  • Manage performance and career development of team members

  • Recruit new staff and coach existing staff.

Qualifications/ Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • Appropriate degree in a Petroleum Engineering or Geoscience

  • Previous operational experience would be an advantage

  • Prefer a minimum of 10 years experience with a broad background in a sub-surface discipline

  • In-depth technical knowledge of field development and management processes

  • Experience in building relationships with Joint Venture Partner Groups, regulatory bodies and other third parties

  • Excellent appreciation of support group skills needed for field development, e.g. Drilling and Well Technology, commercial awareness, knowledge of PSC environments

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and stakeholder management skills, with effective oral and written communication to both internal and external audiences

  • Results oriented approach to project work. Sets clear goals/direction in line with overall business direction and effectively varies management style to motivate staff

  • Ability to collaborate across teams and other groups within and outside the organization

  • Empowers staff and delegates responsibilities, while rewarding initiative and addressing performance issues

  • Able to raise the level of technical excellence in subsurface deliverables

  • Analytical problem solver with ability to mentor junior staff.

  • Ability to proactively take initiative and deliver continuous improvement

  • Malaysian national preferred to meet nationalization objectives
