A leading global independent energy company, engaged in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. Exploration and production is the engine of future income and growth, currently representing nearly 70% of capital employed and over 95% of annual capital expenditures. The Company has operations in the United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Azerbaijan, Thailand and Indonesia.

This STA (Short Term Assignment) position, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is in the Global Drilling group and will report to the Drilling Superintendent in KL. The drilling programme presently consists of a one or two well programme which may include testing the well(s). Your primary responsibility will be planning, costing and assisting with operations regarding the well construction, testing and abandonment of these wells in compliance with the Global Drilling Minimum Standards and EH+S Management Systems. This will require close liaison with the subsurface team to ensure effective integration of well programmes in the exploration and potentially overall development plan. Coach and develop direct reports and key contractors.

Responsibilities:

Candidate will work in a drilling and completions team to support the Company’s drilling operations for the development, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The incumbent will report to the Drilling Superintendent.

Specifically the incumbent will:

  • Conduct well design and other required exploration wells. Ensure that all well plans, designs and well programmes meet defined well objectives, required performance standards, budget and schedule.

  • Preparation of scopes of work for tenders and evaluation of tenders.

  • Preparation of well cost estimates.

  • Day to day operations support during drilling activity.

  • Preparing and conducting pre-spud meetings.

  • Preparation of drilling programmes and end of well reports.

  • Actively participate in promotion of HS&E initiatives.

  • Ensure that all well plans, designs and well programmes and regulatory submissions are prepared to and conform with the Company’s and legislative procedures and timeframes.

  • To be responsible for cost and technical reviews of drilling, suspension and abandonment operations in order that areas for improvement are identified so future projects can benefit.

  • To pro-actively forge good relationships with internal and external network contacts, so that up to date information is exchanged and all queries satisfactorily answered.

  • Liaise with project and exploration groups to meet their objectives in a safe and efficient manner.

Qualifications/ Experience:

The following skills, qualification and experience are required:

  • BS or BSc in Engineering or equivalent

  • Minimum of ten years experience in Drilling Engineering.

  • Experience of Malaysian drilling operations and tendering for well services in Malaysia.

  • Experience in Semi drilling operations.

  • Ability to work independently, with small measure of supervision. Self starter

  • Have a safety orientated culture.

  • Good knowledge of well planning software.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to deliver according to an agreed schedule.

  • Team player with good communication skills, drive and enthusiasm.

  • Able to work in multi-discipline team.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop junior staff and contractors.

  • Good English language communication skills.
