The Senior Drilling Engineer (SDE) will be part of a Joint Venture (JV) FEED team.

The FEED project will require drilling interface input, including the following:

  • Physical space interfaces - running the tree or other items through the moonpool, etc

  • Running tool interfaces - technical assurance to the bid packages, and technical assurance as to the integrity of the systems offered by the vendors, themselves.

  • Compatibility of wellhead - dimensions, metallurgy, seals, etc.

  • Tree functionality with respect to drilling operation.

  • Work directly with the Subsea Tree engineer to agree the proper procurement strategies for the tree and wellhead equipment.

  • Marking of the tree - nomenclature, locations of markings, etc

  • Confirmation of ROV interfaces - dimensions, ROV manipulator types, etc

  • Installation of jumpers, flying leads, etc.

  • Representation of the Drilling Function in the Project meetings, as it relates to scenario planning. Liaison with the China organization to obtain input for transfer to the project team and to advise management of pending decisions.

  • Role of the rig in the project implementation. Sequencing of operations.

The SDE FEED engineer will transition from part time FEED engineer / part time SDE to full time SDE. As such the work location will be principally be in Australia during the early stages of FEED, but this will transfer to full-time in China by the end of the FEED stage, perhaps earlier. Therefore the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.

Qualifications/ Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • A Degree in an accepted Engineering discipline

  • Membership of an Applicable Qualified Professional Society would be considered an asset

  • A minimum of 10 years experience drilling operations, at least half of which is in Deepwater (>1500 ft of water)

  • A minimum of 1 year experience working in fabrication yards would be an asset

  • A minimum of 5 years living and working outside the candidate's "home country"

  • An excellent, proven practical understanding of project and cost management principles and best practices

  • Familiarity working with a "gated" execution processes

  • 6th Generation Rig experience

  • Knowledge of up to date Cost Management practices

  • Proven track record of integrity

  • Engineering acumen / ability to sort operational scenarios

  • Chinese Language Skills would be a definite asset

  • Proven leadership, communication and teambuilding skills

  • Strong business focus

  • Above average written and spoken English skills
