Position Description:

The senior stimulation engineer will join an engineering team supporting the design and execution of onshore development, appraisal, and exploration wells.

The primary focus for the senior stimulation engineer will be to help identify cost effective methods to recover reserves from tight coal areas while avoiding casing shear post stimulation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing mentoring and training to the team as fracture stimulation expertise is built in house. It is also important to provide both engineering design and operational support for ongoing operations. This position reports to the Drilling and Completions Team Leader - Development and is a key part of the Drilling and Completions team which manages the drilling, completion, stimulation, workovers, and well servicing of wells.

The work is fast paced and requires the ability to optimize operations while maintaining a high level of safety, health, and environmental awareness. Extensive experience with land based "manufacturing" style work will be an advantage for the successful candidate.

Scope/Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Assist and drive the team to a successful solution to economically recover gas from sub 10 millidarcy and sub 1 millidarcy perm coal wells.
  • Assist and successfully identify methods to avoid casing shear post fracture stimulation.
  • Mentor others in fracture stimulation design (fluids, rock mechanics, stage design, gels, rates, programs etc.)
  • Mentor national employees and assist in competency based training and assessment programs as required. A documented mentoring plan is required
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, budgets and AFE's
  • Ensure that wells are stimulated and completed in a safe, innovative, cost effective, and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Ensure that well operations are documented in a timely/accurate fashion and that lessons learned are incorporated rapidly into subsequent operations
  • Interface with the HSE Department and provide necessary input for the preparation of regulatory / permitting documents. Preparing government permits as required.
  • Able to take a lead role in performing Risk Assessments, Third-Party Contractor Audits, After-Action Reviews and Lessons Learned Sessions
  • Assist in the preparation, evaluation and contract awards for support services and materials. Administer contracts with outside suppliers of equipment and services.
  • Assist in development of the mechanical earth model or the basin

Qualifications/Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Petroleum or Mechanical disciplines.
  • A minimum of 10 years of stimulation, experience.
  • Experience with completions, workover and coil tubing operations is preferred.
  • Experience with horizontal fracturing in tight reservoirs
  • Coal bed methane fracture stimulation experience (4 years minimum) and involvement in a large-scale, multi-well, "manufacturing-style" oil or gas field development is preferred.
  • Highly motivated and results oriented
  • Understanding of frac design programs and ability to utilize appropriate software to design fracture stimulation and interface with vendor representatives
