Gas Measurement Engineer

Position Description:

Design, specify, install, maintain, calibrate and test ultrasonic, orifice, turbine and vortex shedding meters that serve gas operations and ensure they are operated and maintained to achieve acceptable standards of reliability and accuracy. Design, specify, program and install RTU’s.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Work safely on and off the job, practice defensive driving skills for company vehicles and assist the organization in achieving safety goal of zero lost days.

• Coordinate calibration witnessing of flow computers and associated temperature and pressure transmitters at customer and supplier points.

• Manage the maintenance of Calibration Witness Reports for customer and supplier points.

• Develop and/or update calibration procedures for all meters, to include approval of procedures relating to meters owned by others.

• Maintain the excellent working relationship with gas suppliers and customers.

• Understand and lead engineering related to all details of all types of flow measurement used at gas supply and delivery points.

• Maintain and update specifications for the Company’s measurement requirements at new meter runs of supplier and customer.

• Review and approve submissions from suppliers and customers for new metering facilities.

• Ensure accurate gas flow and composition measurement at supplier and customer end.

• Prepare the supplier and customer monthly and yearly calibration schedule, evaluate calibration witnessing of customer and supplier meters, flow computers and Gas Chromatographs (GC).

• Manage the commissioning of new Modbus communication links and troubleshoot links with problems.

• Assist the electrical engineer as required regarding the calibration of flow computers and GCs at the GCS.

• Utilize the Honeywell Experion system to aid in commissioning and troubleshooting RTUs.

• Manage the diagnosis and resolution of RTU hardware problems.

• Manage the commissioning of new leased and dial telephone links and troubleshooting of links with problems.

• Develop functional requirements for new RTUs and work with CIMAC engineers to develop the software.

• Function as the Company’s expert on the development and troubleshooting of Bristol RTU software.

Qualifications/Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

• University degree in engineering or equivalent technology with focus on computer science, electrical engineering or instrumentation.

• 10 years experience in gas flow measurement, gas chromatography and field instrumentation.

• Well developed problem solving skills

• Good people skills

• Patience, persistence and attention to detail

• Ability to work through difficult situations without assistance

• Good office computer skills with the Microsoft Office family of products

• Experience and expertise with Modbus protocol

• Experience and expertise with Bristol 3000 and ControlWave series of RTU/flow computer

• Ability to fully comprehend the details of Bristol RTU software code, including development, debugging and diagnostics.

• Experience and expertise with the Honeywell Experion PKS control system
