An international oil and gas exploration company quoted on the London Stock Exchange, with a portfolio of producing assets in the UK, Indonesia, Pakistan and West Africa. The company continues to grow with focus on oil & gas exploration and commercial deal-making.

Responsible for providing technical support and consultancy to Production Department (onshore and offshore staff) and other related departments in managing corrosion activities. Maintaining corrosion control programs which covers cathodic protection, coating & painting, selection of corrosion inhibitor and advance technology material application.

Key Objectives:

  • Carry out and conduct corrosion analysis, studies and surveys on plant equipment and facilities to determine corrosion behaviour and the effect of corrosion due to changes in operation mode

  • Provide technical advice of running stationary plant equipment required by upper management or other section, related to corrosion, material and welding engineering, plant safety, implementation of corrosion control measures and follow up, risk assessment, equipment failure analysis and trouble shooting

  • Provide technical assessment on corrosion behaviour considering the adequacy of chemicals, metallurgy and protection measures

  • Provide trending analysis of cathodic protection potential survey and corrosion probe/coupon result

  • Maintain corrosion control and recommend procedure for mitigating corrosion problems such as selection the usage of corrosion inhibitor, cathodic protection, protective coating and advanced technology material application

  • Prepare technical specification and design basis for cathodic protection projects

  • Ensure all stationary equipment and all project works (detail design, fabrication and construction, repair and modification and QA/QC of these works are accurate and compatible with the existing system), are in accordance with applicable Code, Standards, Government Regulation

  • Review all materials either being used or will be used suitable for service handled against corrosion, repetitive and premature failure, provide alternative best replacement

  • Deeply evaluate assigned Engineering Change Request (ECR) and perform necessary study/survey/testing such as evaluate the adequacy / effectiveness of corrosion control systems on all facilities

  • Inspect plant equipment and facilities to determine cause of corrosion.

  • Routinely monitor all equipment for corrosion, record the data, evaluate and report to department concerned for necessary improvement and repair

  • Conduct remaining life assessment to all Cathodic Protection system

  • Set up corrosion data management system for all plant equipment / facilities.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • In conjunction with others in the Production Operation Group, assist in failure investigations to determine any corrosion implications and mitigating solutions

  • Provide material selection / analysis services to determine type of material to be used and determine the cause of failures

  • Develop standard repair specifications and guidelines

  • Develop metallurgical standards for plant static equipment

  • Ensure the optimization of chemical usage is done

  • Ensure that the technical service provided by the Chemical Supplier is of acceptable standard.

  • Co-ordinate all Corrosion Management activities based on a team approach, organize meeting and liaise with offshore personnel on corrosion matters.

  • Produce quarterly and annual corrosion management reports

  • Produce trend analysis on the result of cathodic protection potential survey and corrosion probe/coupon result

  • Provide technical assistance to prepare all corrosion related procedures and manual

  • Carry out pre-qualification of corrosion contractors / consultants for inclusion in company’s bidders list.

  • Evaluate facilities integrity and determine their remaining life based on prediction models

Safety Considerations:

  • Attend Jakarta Production Safety Meeting and Facilities Safety Meeting when offshore

  • To be familiar with, and work towards achieving the Production department Annual HSE Objectives

  • Ensure process ECRs are progressed in accordance with engineering procedures

  • Develop offshore installation work instructions in accordance with HSE requirement

  • Be familiar with the requirements of the facility Safety cases; Operations Safety Management System in accordance with “Health Safety and Environment Policy Statement and Management Principles.

  • As required, provide assistance to the emergency Response Group, particularly regarding corrosion and material information

  • Responsible for reporting of HSE Incident in accordance with Management System Procedures

  • Ensure that whenever there is a potential for risk of injury to personal or damage to property or the environment, a Job Risk Analysis (JRA) is written, in accordance with Management System Procedures

  • Ensure the management of Change procedure is used as a means of trace ability for changes affecting the facility safety cases, in particular equipment, plant, structure, modifications and engineering Changes

  • To be fully Familiar with offshore safe systems of work, in particular the permit to Work System Procedure and Work Instructions

  • To provide technical support to the Company’s Indonesia Emergency Response Team (ERT) as and when required

Qualifications/ Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years experiences in the oil and gas industry with specific experience in facility engineering and corrosion management.

  • Good understanding of predictive maintenance methods including UT & corrosion monitoring, show history of innovative solutions to chronic corrosion and wear problems

  • Familiar with applicable country legislation, Regulation, Engineering Standards such as NACE, API, ASTM, and any other relevant legislation

  • Strong computer literate

  • Fluent in English both writing and speaking


  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Self motivated

  • Strong prioritization skill.

  • Ability to work with diverse group of people ranging from technical staff to onsite operations staff
