Chief Geologist - Technical Leader

Position Description:

An opportunity for an internationally experienced technical (Senior or Chief) Geologist to lead local geologists and be responsible for all aspects of Geology within the company. In this role you will be responsible for the Geology function and leadership of all the Company’s geologists

Responsibilities will include:

  • Champion functional excellence, specifically through the continuous improvement of best practice workflows

  • Champion Petroleum Systems Analysis in the Company

  • Directly lead the Geological Advisors Group in both Exploration and Reservoir Development

  • Mentor with the intent of developing juniors and peers in the Exploration and Reservoir Development departments

  • Champion access to leading-edge technologies and represent the Company in relevant Joint Industry Project

  • Project management of all specialist geological projects, especially in sedimentology, structural geology and reservoir characterisation, including interaction with third party service providers

  • Oversight and execution of 2D and 3D seismic interpretation for NV, Exploration and Development projects

  • Technical direction of regional studies as required, including license round projects and field developments

  • Oversight and execution of 2D and 3D velocity model building for both depth conversion and seismic imaging

  • Written and verbal reporting of technical studies and presentation to management, partners and Government and other regulatory bodies

  • Internal meetings and networking in the Company across NV, Exploration and Reservoir Development

  • Meetings and networking with JV partners, Government and other regulatory bodies

  • Regular contact with key Finance & Accounts representatives ensuring accurate payments are made on time

  • Liaison with drilling and environment teams as necessary

  • Awareness of geophysical R&D, building relationships where appropriate application of technology is of value

  • Contribute to the Company’s subsurface technology programme definition and technology

Qualifications/Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • MSc or PhD in Geoscience discipline with a focus and expertise in geoscience

  • Significant international experience with Oil & Gas Operator companies.

  • At least 15 years of experience resulting in a thorough grounding across all GGRE disciplines with a multinational oil company and have a comprehensive understanding of the use of geology in quantifying and reducing uncertainty in both exploration and production projects.

  • Must have extensive international experience with operating oil companies across New Ventures, Exploration, Appraisal, Development and Production.

  • Must have an in depth understanding of key geological disciplines such as structural geology, sequence stratigraphy and reservoir characterisation is essential and the ability to interrogate basin and geocellular geological models is critical to success in this role.

  • Specific experience building basin models and Petrel reservoir models is also required.

  • The role demands contemporary workstation skills, which allow the geologist to participate actively in projects with individuals & the Geological Projects team.

  • Awareness of and exposure to project risking and ranking, and project economics

  • Awareness of the principles of reservoir engineering and an ability to interact with reservoir and completions engineers

  • Strong current workstation skills, including working in a 3D modelling environment

  • Expertise in GIS and database management would be an advantage

  • Team player with open and flexible approach

  • Good communicator and presenter

  • Commercially aware with entrepreneurial attitude

  • Understanding of project execution and cost implications.

  • Willingness and availability to travel extensively, both within Central Asia and elsewhere in SE Asia and the Middle East
