Head Geophysical Data Processing

Position Description:

To lead and manage the geophysical data processing team responsible for processing of all geophysical data in support of the Company’s exploration and development activities and to ensure that it is done in accordance with business objectives, meeting HSE requirements, T&OE standards, at a competitive cost, on budget and on time.

Principal Accountabilities include:

  • Execute a geophysical data processing plan to meet agreed Company targets (HSE, production, reserves, costs, value) in consultation with share / stakeholders

  • Lead, coach and stimulate the team and develop and maintain a team spirit that is characterized by high performance, co-operation, support, openness and respect.

  • Ensure staff and IT resources and skill and competence levels are sufficient to maintain the Company’s geophysical data processing capabilities, through an active coaching system.

  • Create team environment that stimulates selective innovation

  • Maintain and enhance HSE standards, to manage HSE risks and continuously improve HSE performance of the team, including contractors

  • Ensure technical peer reviews, technical benchmarking exercises and performance reviews are conducted to develop and maintain standards and to continuously improve performance.

  • Ensure the geophysical data processing projects are carried out according to best T&OE practices and where possible in accordance with the Global Process for Geophysical Data Acquisition, Processing and QI, making optimal use of staff in the Geophysical Data Processing team

  • Contribute to the maintenance of the Geophysics management system and its ISO9001 accreditation

  • Responsible for the quality and efficient execution of geophysical data processing projects, including sequence and cost planning as well as cost monitoring

  • Ensure a results driven and customer focused delivery process with a clear emphasis on technical quality, timing, costs and flexibility

  • Provide the focus for research, new technology investments and innovation in geophysical data processing. Develop and maintain strong links with research & services groups, Group OU’s, Geophysical Contractors, geophysical institutions in academia and professional bodies (SEG, EAGE) for this purpose.

  • Ensure rapid evaluation and implementation of new technology in a cost effective manner.

  • Contractor holder of geophysical data processing contracts.

  • Manage the in-house seismic processing services contractor.

  • Actively participate in Global Network for Processing (GNP) and develop and contribute to the T&OE global process for Geophysical data processing.

  • Develop contracting strategies to ensure competitive pricing structures.

  • Ensure Company’s profile as a world class performer in 3D land seismic data processing is further developed and maintained.

  • Ensure adequate archiving of all the Company’s seismic field- and processed data and all Government geophysical data under the Company’s custody

  • Liaise with Ministries and partners/competitors oil companies for data exchanges

  • Manage external relationships, e.g. with geophysical contractors and EPM region geophysics communication.

Qualifications/Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • University qualifications, minimum MSc level, in Physics or Geophysics

  • 10 to 15 years experience in various operating and geophysical environments with full appreciation of HSE and modern geophysical techniques, including at least two assignments in a supervisory role.

  • Experience in 3D land seismic data processing both hands-on as well as contractor processing supervision.

  • Thorough knowledge of Geophysical data processing techniques available with major Geophysical Contractors and in SIPMAP package, including knowledge on latest R&D products.

  • Knowledge of seismic acquisition, seismic interpretation and of quantitative seismic interpretation. The ability to think interpretatively, but also understanding the impact of seismic data processing on prospect maturation and field development.

  • Excellent people management and leadership skills. Seasoned business skills for proper budgeting and project/cost monitoring, well developed communication skills (verbal/writing/English).

  • Experience in negotiating, tendering, contract management.
