The Rotating Equipment Team Lead role functions as a senior technical supervisor. In addition to leading a team of onshore based rotating equipment specialists, the team lead role acts as the technical authority for rotating equipment. This role requires knowledge and experience (though not at expert level) in mechanical equipment which includes pumps, gas turbines, gas compressors, along with other drive train equipment. The rotating equipment team lead must have a basic understanding of the controls, constraints, and limits applied to this equipment to ensure safe operation while maximizing equipment output and potential capacity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and direction to direct reports in the office and technical direction to the offshore Rotating Equipment Specialist. Ensure the persons in these roles possess the correct skills and knowledge while delivering quality and timely support for the offshore implementation staff.

  • Accountable for the overall management of time or hour limited rotating equipment. Ensures a 5 year long range plan is maintained for time/hour based overhauls. Forecasts budgets one year in advance. Responsible for accurate hour tracking of turbines and/or rotor life components.

  • Primary point of contact for rotating equipment OEM communications. Ensure receipt and action of service and notice bulletins from OEMs. Liaise with contracts department to ensure all foreseeable support contracts are in place and do not lapse. Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and service contractors and ensures their engagement in troubleshooting, failure investigations, and modifications.

  • Accountable to deliver level four planning in the form of work packs for planned overhauls and refurbishment work to rotating equipment offshore in conjunction with the offshore mechanical planning groups. Accountable to ensure all parts, equipment, tools, and support are correctly specified, ordered, and received before releasing a work scope into the 28 day plan. The responsibility for the actual planning details would normally fall to one of your reports or to the offshore maintenance staff.

  • Provides justified recommendations after developing an understanding of how equipment performance affects business results so that cost, risk, and run-life are balanced with production requirements.

  • Budget responsibility

    • Generates budget

    • Understands and takes responsibility for generation and tracking of all Rotating Equipment budget items

    • Can and will report on variations to budget on monthly basis

  • Performance Management

    • KPIs - Generation of KPIs for team and monitoring of team performance against agreed KPIs

    • Goals and objectives – create and monitor by line and individual

  • Planning

    • Generates Level 1 and 2 plans for Rotating Equipment group

  • Team Competency and Development

    • Recruiting

    • Competency assurance

    • Mentors, develops, coaches

  • Support to Operations Support Team Manager

    • Natural delegate for OST manager

Qualifications/ Experience:

The following skills, qualifications and experience are required:

  • Degree qualified engineer

  • Minimum 10 years direct rotating equipment field or site experience with similar equipment (aero-derivative and industrial gas turbines, centrifugal gas compressors, pumps & generators, auxiliary equipment.).

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a senior role in maintenance supervision.

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a management role responsible for long term planning, budgeting and cost forecasting, and OEM management related to rotating equipment and maintenance.

Work Skills:

  • Turbo-machinery: very proficient to expert level with industrial and aeroderivative gas turbines, centrifugal gas compressors, centrifugal pumps, and ancillary equipment.

  • Understanding of offshore oil and gas production including gas lift operations.

  • Equipment management, vendor relations, and contract optimization.

  • Leadership ability for personnel supervision, work flow processes.

  • Office management, including budgeting, presentations, and management reporting.

  • Project management, including economic justification, scope, schedule, budgeting, cost tracking, and results assurance.
