Deputy Environment Team Leader

Gillingham, UK

£28000 - £34000 per annum + Bonus

You will be responsible for:

- Providing environmental advice for maintenance and construction activities, assessments, designs and specifications for roads, LNMS and structures schemes.
- Undertaking surveys and assessments as required.
- Ensuring that the soft estate is monitored managed and maintained to an appropriate level agreed.
- Providing professional and technical excellence in environmental assessment, management and advice.
- Leading other staff and co-ordinate their workload to ensure timely delivery.
- Identifying, develop, improve, and implement environmental processes within and outside the team as required.
- Collating and check timesheets and agree annual leave requests.
- Attending meetings in lieu of design manager or Team Leader.
- Developing staff appropriately and undertake inductions.
- Checking technical reports and documents as required.
- Responsible for content and format of preliminary environmental assessments.
- Responsible for AASM and RoD decisions and applications.
- Ensuring environmental designs, studies, surveys and investigations are appropriate and meet the expected levels of technical excellence.
- Seek innovation in the delivery of environmental schemes and techniques used to minimise the environmental impact of schemes.
- Produce Specifications Appendices and Works Information packages to ensure schemes meet environmental mitigation requirements.
- Ensuring the quality system(including the EMS) is actively applied.
- Ensuring all works are in accordance with ISO14001.

The successful candidate will have the following:

- Chartered membership or equivalent of a relevant professional institution (IEEM or IEMA).
- 5 Days of CPD in last 12 months including 3 related to environmental management.
- Detailed knowledge of key environmental legislation
- Project Management skills
- Competent in all areas related to environmental management
- Broad knowledge and understanding of other design areas
- Understanding of H&S requirements related to environmental management.
- Competent in exercising the Designers obligations of CDM
- CSCS Gold (Supervisors) Card.
- Detailed understanding of environmental requirements of highway schemes.
- Broad knowledge of Quality Management.
- Indepth understanding of QMS.
- Good communication skills
- Relevant vocational qualifications (BSc/BA)
- Relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Detailed knowledge of design codes (DMRB/MCDHW) relevant to environmental management.
- Knowledge of the HA procedures necessary to deliver a highways project.
- Knowledge of the use of computer design tools.
- Surveying skills for flora and fauna.
- experience of environmental impact assessment and design
- Recent experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams in environmental consultancy.
