Senior Waste Projects Manager

East Midlands/Flexible, UK
Salary: £40K

This will involve managing a small team of consultants and working with a number of other consultants who work primarily on waste-related projects. The primary task in the first year will be to understand core company skills, identify market opportunities and reskill/recruit as necessary to match our capability to the market. This will require close liaison with the sales team and resource manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales and Business development – support the Client Sector Managers in developing business and securing new sales. Take specific responsibility for developing technical expertise in waste -related services. Assess implications these may have on existing and future resources. Manage identified key accounts.
  • Business strategy – lead the development of business strategy for the waste -related service area, and contribute to the development of the strategy for the Environment Group.
  • Technical offer – manage the technical aspects of research and consultancy on waste-related services. Ensure that we deliver good quality science. Review technical expertise, including gaps, and develop strategies to maintain/improve scientific quality. Address training needs. Promote and support quality assurance compliance and ensure the quality and timeliness of all deliverables to customers.
  • Resource management - advise on staff technical training and personal development required to support delivery of business stream objectives. Agree and monitor resource requirements at regular intervals in liaison with the Operations Manager.
  • Technical delivery – act as project manager for specific, high profile, projects.

Key Skills/Experience

  • The person must have a desire to develop and manage a technically strong and financially sustainable team delivering waste-based research and consultancy.
  • Educated to at least degree level (or equivalent) in relevant discipline
  • Proven track record of providing high quality strategic consultancy and R&D to waste industries
  • Good strategic understanding of how waste issues impact on Corporate and Government clients.
  • Good understanding of the legislative drivers surrounding waste issues.
  • Understanding of UK and EU waste policy and legislation, waste strategy development, planning, audits and impact
  • Good understanding of waste to land issues; construction waste minimisation; advanced waste treatment technologies; collection methodologies and implications for treatment and disposal; current treatment and disposal technologies
  • Good communicator – able to deal with clients. Strong platform presentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills - especially in relation to working with others within a team
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Full UK driving licence
