Senior Power Systems Engineer

Edinburgh, Scotland

£32000 - £35000 per annum + Pension

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Electrical Engineer to join its rapidly expanding organisation working in the field of offshore wave energy. This role will involve the design, manufacture, test and commissioning of medium and low voltage electrical equipment for a wave power device. You will liaise utilities, transmission and distribution organisations for the development of new and existing wave farm projects, to ensure compliance to the relevant codes and legislation.

Summary of Primary Responsibilities:
lDesign, specify, test and commission electrical equipment, with a specific focus on the medium voltage interface on the device and at the substation
lUndertake studies for the connection of the device to the grid system
lLiaise with manufacturers for the supply of equipment.
lPrepare functional specifications for the software control of equipment
lEnsure design, test and commissioning work is carried out with the appropriate risk assessments and to the appropriate regulatory standards.
lDevelop further standards and procedures for the design and construction of electrical equipment in an offshore environment
lAdvise and support the project development team on grid connection issues and subsea power distribution system requirements

Qualifications/Skills
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in electrical engineering with a minimum of 5 years industrial experience. This post would suit an enthusiastic team player who can manage their work effectively to meet demanding timescales. You will have experience in low and medium voltage equipment design and an understanding of the issues relating generating and integration into the grid. You will be competent at power system calculations, specification of electrical equipment ratings and design of protection systems and metering.

You will have an appreciation of electricity generation, transmission and distribution. Knowledge of medium voltage switching, isolation and permit to work systems would be advantageous. Experience with SCADA equipment, systems up to 11KV and/or offshore electrical equipment would also be useful. You must have the flexibility to apply your knowledge and experience to develop innovative ways to produce robust systems that can operate reliably in an inaccessible offshore environment. You will have good IT skills and be familiar with CAD electrical drawing packages.
