 Petrophysicist
City of London, UK #95000 - #110000 per annumThis employer has been producing oil and natural gas in the world for well over 50 years. It is ranked as one of the top companies in terms of in operational efficiency, they employ thousands of technical staff worldwide and is an internationally renowned employer. Their Exploration and Production strategy is focused on successful exploration, optimisation of their base production operations and the addition of new core areas with growth potential.
The appointee will be tasked with applying appropriate quantitative methods and techniques for the characterization, analysis, and modeling of reservoirs and developing & applying models for determining lithology, permeability, porosity, saturations and mobile fluid fractions. You will be called upon to monitor saturation/recovery processes and/or residual/remaining oil, evaluate secondary porosity and perform specialty petrophysical data analyses and modeling, e.g., mobility and pressure gradients, borehole images, acoustic waveforms, NMR, routine and special core analysis, logging tool responses, e.g., thin and dipping-bed effects, and reservoir seal analysis.
Other elements of the role could include:
* Assessing petrophysical uncertainties in data acquisition, processing, and interpretation.
* Providing 3-D petrophysical analyses and models to support geocellular model construction and up-scaling methods.
* Reconstructing in-situ log properties by applying appropriate corrections, including reservoir and non-reservoir intervals. Determine petroelastic models for quantitative use of seismic data and determine geomechanical properties of formations and stress-dependent property models.
* Developing technology initiatives to improve integrated characterization, analysis, modeling and simulation of oil and gas reservoirs. This could include monitoring and evaluating the latest technological trends/innovations in petrophysics and reservoir description.
* Communicating information and ideas through a variety of media to relevant individuals / groups
* Problem solving and taking a proactive approach to achieve goals and objectives
Applicants should hold a strong academic qualification (ideally to Masters level) in a related Geoscience or Engineering discipline and with relevant integrated petrophyscial work experience. Applicants should have a broad range of petrophysical skills and experience with integration into geology, geophysics, and reservoir engineering. Experience should include success in identification of new opportunities and/or enhancement of existing production through quantitative rock property evaluations, including all forms of borehole data. Other experience should include participation in building 3-D reservoir models, with an awareness of scale and flow simulation issues; seismic forward modeling with rock physics models; wellsite operations; value-added utilization of new technologies; risk and uncertainty quantification. This role is ideally suited to those with an ability to work in integrated teams is preferred. You will need to have experience with at least one petrophysical evaluation software type (e.g. Geolog) and seismic and geologic interpretation and/or modeling software skills would be an added benefit.
In conjunction with a competitive salary this company will supplement your earnings with a number of programs that reward individual, team and overall corporate performance. Your benefits package will include medical insurance, pension plan, company share plan, annual bonus, company lunch and the opportunity to avail of flexible working hours.
