Environmental Economist

Leeds, UK

#25000 - #32000 per annum

Our client is looking for an environmental economist for their growing Policy and Economics
team to contribute to the extensive programme of environmental research and
consultancy.
The team works with scientific and technical colleagues across a range of
sectors, predominantly, although not exclusively, land, food and waste sectors, to
provide high level policy advice, research and impact analysis. The post is at their Leeds
office but the successful applicant must be prepared to travel to other locations.

The successful applicant will contribute to winning and delivery of profitable economic
policy and research assignments as part of a team, and in so doing to build long term
relationships with clients. The main focus will be environmental policy, including
sustainable development and climate change.

Key Responsibilities
* To develop and deliver research and consultancy work with client organisations
including the EU, UK and devolved government departments, the Regional
Development Agencies, public agencies, local authorities and the private sector.
* To develop long-term working relationships with the above.
* To lead and write effective tender bids and proposals.
* To lead and manage research and consultancy projects and to support other
consultants' projects by providing expert input.
* To play an active role in the Policy & Economics team and proactively build
relationships with other teams across the whole of the company.
* To represent the company at technical conferences and events and build the profile and
reputation of the organisation

Skills
* Applicants should have an economics degree, preferably a post-graduate
qualification or experience in a relevant field.
* The ability to apply economic methods to a broad range of environmental policy
areas.
* Knowledge of the application of cost benefit analysis, environmental valuation,
and/or economic impact assessments would be an advantage.
* An ability to interpret data and information to address the needs of the client.
* Good report writing and presentation skills.
* The successful candidate will have an understanding of the policy environment in
areas such as: Sustainable Development, Energy and Climate Change,
Environmental and Landscape Management, Agriculture, Food and Drink, Rural
Affairs, Recycling and Waste.
