Principal Sustainability Consultant


Reading or Cambridge, UK

Our client is a wholly independent, employee-owned award winning company. Due to planned growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an established Sustainability Consultant to cultivate their presence in this field by building upon their existing workload and developing new business.

Key Accountabilities:

The successful applicant will be taking a lead role in building the company’s presence within sustainability consulting. The main responsibilities will include:

  • Advising clients on sustainability, best practice techniques and low carbon technologies
  • Offer expertise to clients on energy strategies, passive building design, environmental strategies and renewable energy options
  • Ensuring compliance with current legislation and grant availability
  • Advising clients on the climate change agenda
  • Working with the buildings team to develop business by presenting sustainability solutions to clients and architects
  • Managing the delivery of sustainability projects
  • Be active in the design of sustainability projects
  • Checking and monitoring of BREEAM Assessments
  • Encouraging, developing and coaching team members to produce creative and innovative solutions to problems
  • Work closely with immediate colleagues to provide a high quality service to internal and external clients
  • Build network of contacts both inside and outside the business
  • Develop and grow the sustainability team

This is a key role that demands a well-qualified and experienced individual. Key skills, experience and qualifications sought:

  • In-depth knowledge of energy strategies, best practise techniques, low carbon technologies, and understanding of current sustainability legislation
  • Understanding of the climate change agenda and planning policy
  • Ability to successfully secure business.
  • Proven skills in managing sustainability projects from inception to delivery
  • Strong technical skills and design experience of similar sustainability projects
  • Experience of developing and coaching a team
  • Excellent grounding in Business Services design
  • Qualified Energy Assessor (EPC & DEC)
  • Registered Low Carbon Consultant
  • Chartered Member of CIBSE
  • Qualified BREEAM Assessor
  • Ability to manage the commercial / financial side of the business
  • Building Services degree (or equivalent).
  • Experience within a client-facing role including the delivery of presentations and input at client led project meetings
