Senior Geotechnical Engineer


Location: Newcastle, UK

Our client’s geotechnical specialists provide a service to other sections of the firm as well as undertaking direct geotechnical commissions for many outside bodies such as government departments, local authorities, financial institutions, other consulting engineers, contracting and commercial organisations and private individuals. Projects range from a foundation assessment for a single building to the geotechnical aspects of major projects such as new towns, highways, prestigious structures, airports and bridges. This is an exciting opportunity for a recently qualified professional to join one of our client’s growing practice areas.

The role involves being fully competent in your own discipline, being able to work independently with minimal supervision, and being confident to share your expertise with others by providing guidance and support as required. The jobholder will be highly credible with clients, being able to translate client needs into practical requirements and to communicate effectively the value of services to clients.

The role involves specific project responsibilities, including monitoring the accuracy of project plans, escalating problems, identifying risks and managing requirement changes. The jobholder may be required to lead projects and to provide support to team members. The role also involves documenting and sharing success stories and being confident to apply knowledge across different clients and markets.

The ideal candidate will have a BSc in Applied Geology or related discipline and ideally a further qualification such as MSc Rock Mechanics, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or similar. The candidate should have significant experience of geotechnical engineering and be a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Geologist or equivalent.

Good verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role as is the ability to lead a design team and liaise with clients. Candidates should be self motivated and possess exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills. In return the successful applicant will be offered a salary in the region of £25,000 to £45,000 depending on experience plus a highly competitive benefits package.
