Lead Risk Consultant


Location: Manchester, UK

Working under the guidance of the service delivery heads, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development of new and existing client relationships. This will necessarily involve identification of new business opportunities, development of proposals and service delivery.

The successful candidate will need to be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent oral and written communications skills. This person should also have good commercial acumen and a desire to help grow the business through enhancement of existing services and development of new service areas.

The ideal applicant will be a Chartered Chemical or Mechanical Engineer with significant experience in process safety. Applicants must also be experienced in some or all of the following areas:

  • HAZID / HAZOP leader
  • QRA / FTA / FMEA
  • Development of risk based inspection strategies for static process equipment
  • Relief valve calculations
  • Layers of Protection Analysis
  • Fire and explosion modelling
  • Hazardous area classification
  • Fire risk assessment
  • Good understanding of current health and Safety legislation
  • Experience in dealing with the regulators (HSE and EA)

The Ideal Career Background would be;

  • Process engineer / process safety / loss prevention specialist with 10 or more years experience in the chemical, oil & gas, pharmaceutical or food sectors
  • May have worked for an operator and/or engineering consultancy
  • Should have had responsibility for setting budgets, service delivery and development of key relationships, internal and/or external
  • The ability to focus on both the short term and long term issues affecting the business
  • The ability to manage professional engineers and consultants (even though they may not be direct reports), ensuring each works to their highest potential
