At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, Section of Chemical Engineering a position as Professor with Special Responsibilities/Associate Professor in Oil and Gas Technology is open for appointment from September 1, 2013 or soon thereafter. The position as Professor with Special Responsibilities is available for a period of five years. The Department provides the research framework for the engineering study programs in Medical Biotechnology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering as well as the Chemical and Biological Sciences programs. The Department is presented in three locations: Aalborg, Esbjerg and Copenhagen with the Section of Chemical Engineering in Esbjerg.

Job description

The vacant position is in the Section of Chemical Engineering, Campus Esbjerg (esbjerg.aau.dk). The on-going research topics include energy production, environmental chemistry and engineering and material science. Research in energy production concerns all parts of the offshore oil and gas recovery processes including reservoir engineering, treatment of water and scale abatement.

We seek a scientist with qualifications to develop our research within energy production. In a teaching perspective this will include gas and oil in the broad sense. Research activities could focus on fossil, off-shore or bio derived oils and development of associated refinery processes. The department wishes to strengthen this research area and the successful candidate will be given freedom and support to establish an international platform for research in this important area. The position will entail strategic planning and implementation of oil and gas activities in the section of chemical engineering. The applicant will be expected to teach in oil and gas production, transportation and refinery processes.

Appointment to Professor with special responsibilities is a temporary position with focus on specific projects as well as ordinary professorship duties. The specific projects may take from three to five years with the possibility of further prolongation for up to three years. The position will normally be established for the purpose of appointing particularly talented preferably younger, researchers with the ability to develop a promising academic field at an international level. At the end of the period, the special resonsibilities are discontinued and the employee in question transfers to a postion of associate professor at the university.

Qualification requirements

The level of qualification for Professors with Special Responsibilities shall correspond to the ordinary positions at the level of Professor however, also the potential of the candidate to further develop the academic fields in question as well as a documented original scientific production shall be taken into consideration. An assessment of the ability of the candidate to undertake the specific projects related to the appointment in question will be particularly emphasised. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities.

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications.

Agreement

Appointment and salary are according to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on academics employed by the state. A pensionable increment will also be given.
